Your past is there for a reason….for you to leave it there. One of the worst things you can do is drag your past into your future.”
I happened to think of that quote during my trip last weekend to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I love getaways that force me to stretch my mind and my thinking. One of the nights, I sat on the couch and thought of these four areas that will help you get over your past and improve your business.
You have to acknowledge that there may be some things that maybe you didn’t like.
We all have been through situations of disappointment. Albeit in your professional or your personal life. For those in network marketing, maybe you didn’t get along with your up line sponsor. Perhaps a simple disagreement blew up into a nasty mess.
We have all had disagreements or other things that didn’t go our way. Sometimes things happen. You must realize and come to terms that everything may not all be perfect for you. Sometimes everything just isn’t always rosy, but you must let that go.
Holding onto past baggage takes you away from future potential, which leads to the next point.
You need to have a clear vision
I have mentioned vision in plenty of posts, that’s no secret. You must create a clear vision of your goals. Your business thrives over the pursuit of your goals. The goals must be clear, after all they are the roadmap to execution.
I make a habit of creating clear short and long-term goals. You need to have goals in place to track your progress, and keep you focused on the why’s you created. The problem with goals (other than people not reaching them) are that some people set their goals too low. I know many individuals who under-promise and fail to deliver because their goals are not clear enough.
On the other hand, many people just are not motivated enough to reach their goals. There are even some people who have the ugly habit of settling for mediocrity.
A confused mind does nothing”
We must set our goals in motion so we can help pull others from their situations. For example, one of my goals is to get myself to a six-figure income. I often look at my written goals and projections to see how I stack up to those goals.
If you don’t have a destination, then a map is useless.”
Get crystal clear with your goals, then go out and execute.
We can’t assume everything is like the past
One of my college professors used to say..
without growth, you are stunted”
A perfect story of this would be a past relationship of mine.
Prior to dating my girlfriend, Chandra, I was in a 6-year relationship with another woman. When Chandra and I met, I referred a lot of negative things in my past relationship to Chandra. Many things that I didn’t agree with and often blamed on a terrible breakup or past relationship experience. I remember a comment that Chandra made and I referred said past relationship. To my surprise, Chandra snapped back at me with “I’m not her!” I will admit, I deserved that, and it was true.
This relationship story illustrates how I let my past thoughts and emotions dictate my future. Well my assumptions at least. I’m glad that Chandra screamed at me the way she did, because more than likely, I wouldn’t be still dating her after all these years. (I’m sure she’s glad I stopped as well)
When you assume, then your growth ceases to exist. Simple as that.
Everything rises or falls through good or bad leadership
We have an opportunity to change everything. Every day is a new beginning, a new chapter in your life story. I have very thankful for all of my life experiences thus far. When you happen to go through something, that becomes your testimony. The beautiful thing about a testimony is that you can share it with others. When you haven’t been through anything, you have no story to share. Therefore no one can relate to you.
I am very thankful for my past experiences, because they have shaped me into the man I am today. However, I realize that my past does not determine my future. There’s a difference between being thankful and determined to be improve ourselves. You must work on yourself. It’s our charge today to become a better leader for the future.
To Sum it Up…
I love being the network marketing industry because you can be completely transparent. You can relate to others by sharing your story. We all know that authenticity sells. Nothing beats being real. Leaders create other leaders. These leaders are created by sharing their stories. Make sure you are the best leader you can be. Have the clear-cut vision to finish this year up strong. Get your mind, body, and spirit right. We haven’t accomplished anything yet. Our goals are still yet to come.
To ditching your past and creating an amazing future!
